Mia Wallace and 90s minimalism in Pulp Fiction

There’s nothing like a cocaine snorting, twist dancing, wife of a gang boss to give you some fashion inspiration. This is Mia Wallace, played by Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. Throughout the film we see Mia rocking some 90s minimal vibes (a trend that is set to soar further into 2020). This particular look comes courtesy of a scene in Jack Rabbit Slims, a 50s diner. Mia convinces John Travolta’s Vincent to dance the twist.

Costume designer Betsy Heimann said she wanted Mia to be the ‘female Reservoir Dog’, so we see her dressed in black and white, in a simple pair of cropped black trousers and a white shirt. The look is easily recreated, and definitely the kind of minimal uniform we can take into a capsule wardrobe for spring. I’ve gone for an oversized white shirt (forever effortless) and a pair of cropped black jeans.
