Wild Women Do – The Pretty Woman Inspired Outfit

I have been watching Pretty Woman for so many years I don’t even remember the first time. I’m pretty sure I didn’t understand what was going on when I first watched it as a child, but something in it captivated me. It was probably Julia Roberts, she definitely has that effect. Anyhow, as dated as this Cinderella story might seem now, I still like to indulge when I need a little pick me up (and so not the kind mentioned by Kit in the Blue Banana – and props to you if you know the scene I’m talking about.)

Anyway… the outfit. I was going to do that famous polka dot dress. There is polka dot everywhere this season, and I did find a very similar one, but because I started with the Virgin Suicides inspired dotty nightie, I decided to go for a look that was completely different.

So I give you Vivian looking effortlessly oh-so-stylish in an uber-casual mom jeans and blazer combo. This is at the end of the film, just when she has decided to take control of her life and board a bus to San Francisco. Of course (SPOILER ALERT), Richard Gere turns up in a limo and it’s all about 250 grand necklaces and cocktail dresses again, but for just a moment, I feel like we see the real Vivian here.

This kind of look is an easy go-to for every day – just switch out the tee, rotate your jeans, and you’ve got a zillion outfits in one. Most of the pieces are from my wardrobe, but I’ll link to some similar staples at the bottom.

Love it. The dotty dress was gorge in that film but this was a style moment I’d forgotten about, good find! And something we can all wear!

    1. You’re so right Joanie, that’s one thing I loved about this outfit, it’s such an easy, effortless one to recreate, and they’re such wardrobe staples!

I love the new blog Laura. The idea is simple but SO effective. This outfit is my kinda go to (when it’s not so hot!!) and your images are stunning. Looking forward to the next one. Sarah x

    1. Oh Sarah that is so kind, thank you! I am definitely a blazer fan now, they’re just such a great go-to for that annoying in-between seasons weather… which I guess is us now the heatwave has passed! xx
